Turbo Hayabusa – The Machine for the Maniacs
When it comes to talk about speed, power and adrenalin why don’t we start right away with an icon, the synonym of speed, the Suzuki GSXR 1300 Hayabusa. When it was launched back in 1999 it was advertised as the “Fastest production motorcycle money can buy.” Sure it is a good marketing slogan which is able to pull in a lot of sales but let’s see what lies beneath. Actually this bike is much more than just an ordinary type of transportation. It is a missile with enough power and speed to explode anyone’s adrenalin level through the roof. Somehow Suzuki managed to accomplish an all round motorbike with capabilities of a racing machine. You can use it to carry passengers in great comfort because its revolutionary aerodynamic bodywork offers a lot of weather protection however it enables you to ride with unbelievable speed when most supersport motorbikes just run out of steam. It has a bullet proof, four cylinder, DOHC engine producing at least a 175 bhp at 9750 rpm which is enough power to shred tires or do wheelies in almost every gear. It does all this with stock settings and with regular unleaded fuel. It is more than enough power to handle for most of the normal riders alive even if you are an experienced rider who used to handle 1000 cc bikes. Please bear in mind that I said “normal riders” but I haven’t mentioned those who have their mind ill and those who think life is too long. For them there is a medicine as well which they can buy without a prescription. It is called the Turbo Hayabusa. The basic theory behind this crazy idea is this “Why would you ride a bike with a 175 horsepower if you can ride it with 300 horsepower?” Fancy a wheelie in every gear even if the speed is above a 150 mph? Well I have good news. The ultimate GSXR is the Turbo GSXR with a top speed well above 200 mph and it doesn’t matter anymore what is your weight or height. If you are not careful enough and you open up the throttle even above a 100 mph then you are going to notice that the rear tire is just spinning hopelessly as it was overcome by the instant power delivery of at least a 300 bhp. But when the tire gets grip you will feel the sheer accelerating power which is going to tear off your arms and chest with such a blistering force that you won’t be able to stop smiling and doing it all over again. The fact that it kicks out more power above 6000 rpm than any other stock GSXRs at their best can be helpful to help you not to underestimate the potential of this rocket. The funny thing is that this turbo Suzuki weights just a little more than the standard one with 215kg. It is preferable to use turbo kit which has a built in “pop-off” valve. The reason why this is much better compared to a normal turbo because when it is boosting and you close the throttle the air has nowhere to go and the big pulse it produces can destroy the hoses and the intercooler and also the turbo stops running so when you pull the throttle again you will have no boost. The good news is that you can buy complete turbo-kits online around 4000$ and they come with everything included and you don’t even have to modify the engine because these kits were designed to give at least 100 bhp gain without the need to compromise the reliability of the bike. So if you really want to know what a Suzuki engine is capable of doing beyond stock settings and you are interested in your GSXR’s real top speed then do not hesitate to go mad enough to fit one of these kits. They are mainly shipped from America for reasonable prices so European customers may have to wait longer but their patience will be honored as their Hayabusa’s top speed proves it is worth the wait.
