A Predator Was Born To Eliminate The Rivals and It Was Called The Suzuki GSXR K5

· Filed Under GSXR Suzuki, Suzuki 1000

As the competition just got better in the year of 2005 when Yamaha and Kawasaki unleashed their superbikes onto the tracks the time had come for Suzuki to show who is the big boss on the field of speed and the answer was the all new Suzuki GSXR K5. This bike was not just a great contender literally it wiped down the competition both from the racetrack and the road. People just get used to it when all the great manufacturers are trying to get some glory with a whole bunch of improvements then Suzuki just throw in another GSXR and like magic there is no competition anymore. Just imagine yourself being in the position of an engineer who works for another motorcycle company and you devote thousands of hours work and creative thinking to come up with a competitive superbike and then here comes Suzuki and arrogantly just spit in your soup because they just have better machines than yours… again! It’s kind of frustrating and I think all the bald engineers are those who don’t work for the Suzuki Motor Company.  Let’s see what the GSXR K5 has to offer. The engineers had come up with a totally new bike to redefine the meaning of a “superbike”. Its engine has bigger bore (from 73 to 73.4mm) which allows the capacity to grow to 998.6cc. They left the stroke the same with 59mm and basically the size of the engine was not affected by the modifications. The compression ratio is up 12:5:1 and so the torque and the power have increased. The combustion efficiency was increased thanks to the redesigned combustion chambers. To give an idea about the build quality there are new titanium valves, the springs are heavier but still has less weight altogether and the end result is that the top revolution now up by a 1000. One of the most important improvements to mention are the slippery clutch to make the cornering really effortless and easy, the gear ratios are closer to let the high-revving engine make the most contribution towards your fly and there is a back torque limiter. Compared to the previous model there is a balancer shaft in addition however they considered the transistorised ignition just fine so it is the same. In order to make the bike lighter now the full exhaust system is made from titanium ending in a strange looking muffler but as you can guess it has a mission. It isn’t just sound great but improves the aerodynamic as well. The engineers are managed to improve the throttle response by using two multi-hole injectors per cylinder for the best fuel atomisation. But the secondary injectors only activate when you fully twist the throttle or the engine is revving high.  In my next post I will tell you everything about the totally new chassis and the rest. To be continued…
