The 2009 GSXR1000 Is New No Matter Which Angle You Look At It
Since it’s original inception year in 2001, do you know how many times Suzuki had it’s flagship bike completely redesigned? Well, I know you will be wrong with your guessing so don’t even try. I tell you. The correct answer is zero. Of course there were many modifications along the way which ultimately led to this super-bike but this one is literally new from top to bottom. We only had to wait 8 long years but finally we will be able to offer our praise for Suzuki’s technicians. They have every reason to celebrate because the 2009 GSXR1000 is finally materialized. Where to start? One of the first key part to mention is the engine of course. Guess what? It’s new inside and out. Let’s take a look inside first. There is an evolution with the internal lubrication system as it directly pumps oil through the camshaft reaching the connection rod journals. This is the first of it’s kind implemented in a road bike. The compression ratio is up to 12:8:1 and the valves are made of titanium and use two springs to handle the serious power output of this engine. But as most of you already know power is nothing without control and that’s the field where the 2009 GSXR 1000 cannot be beaten. The throttle response is hilarious due to the perfectly calibrated ignition and injection system and boy if you dare to twist your right hand then you can experience what it feels like to be an astronaut during launch. The clutch has been changed back to cable, the cooling radiator is reshaped along with the oil cooler both giving better heat dissipation. The traditional SRAD system is still in use but of course it’s a lighter and far more potent version as you would expect. The chassis has the biggest part in the cornering stability “game”. The agility with which you can lean the bike from corner to corner is much better now due to the 10mm shorter wheelbase. What is admirable that throughout the years the engineers still manage to find ways to shave off some weight even if we talk about grams from here and there. Another noticeable strength of the GSXR 1000 is the stopping power. New mono-block calipers are responsible for your safety while the whole braking system has lost around 550 grams in total. The Showa big piston fork are now internally coated with a mixture of carbon and titanium for smoother, stick less movement. The styling of the bike is always a matter of individual taste but still this bike in my opinion is the best looking among it’s rivals. The visible screws are reduced while the sharper lines and edges give some hint about the capabilities of this rocket. This year the 2009 Suzuki GSXR-1000 is going to be a real contender so if I were you I would consider carefully what to spend my money on because the last thing I want is to miss out on a sensational class leader champion bike and a lot of jealous eyes when I show up on a track day this summer.
